It may well be the best collaboration between Williams and songwriter Guy Chambers, which is good because “Sexed Up” is one of the most unmemorable.

First up, we have the rather gorgeous “Feel”, a mid-tempo number that boasts a great piano riff and a rootin’ tootin’ cowboy style video. You can get some measure of this effect from the singles. Still, all too often, he tries to be something that he’s not, whether that be Freddie Mercury ( “Let Me Entertain You”), an off-kilter rapper ( Rudebox) or Noel Gallagher (omnipresent)… and this skitterish braggadocio is not only present and correct on Escapology, but it also threatens to derail the whole affair. For my money, I’m glad that Williams has finally realised his true calling, because when he puts his mind to it, he can belt out some great Pop numbers: “Rock DJ” and “Let Love Be Your Energy” were both solid upbeat hits while “Eternity” (and, I suppose, the ubiquitous “Angels”) showed that he could sing a ballad better than most in the business. It amused me to read that Robbie Williams' record label thought that his latest single to date, "Candy", was too poppy, but he insisted on its release and it went onto top the singles chart.
